What is CBD?

The cannabis plant contains more than 100 different chemical compounds known as cannabinoids, which interact with the body's endocannabinoid system in ways that researchers are still working toward understanding.CBD is one of the most popular chemicals in the cannabis plant. Yet unlike its rivalry, THC, Cannabidiol (CBD) will not give you the euphoric effects. Similar to all cannabinoids, CBD attaches itself to certain receptors in your body to produce its effects.

While the exact science behind CBD is still to be discovered, it is now understood that our bodies produces cannabinoids. To be exact the body produces two receptors for cannabinoids, called CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are located all over the body, but the majority of them are found in the brain. The CB1 receptors are in charge of coordination, movement, pain, emotions, thinking, memories, among others.

CB2 receptors are more related to the immune system. They effect inflammation, pain, among others.

It was once thought that CBD acts on directly on the CB2 receptor, but it is now understood that they don’t directly act on the receptors either CBD influences the body to use more of its own natural cannabinoids. In other words, CBD helps to produce more natural goodness in your body to overcome different medical or psychological problems.

What are the benefits of CBD?

There's plenty of anecdotal evidence that CBD helps treat a variety of ailments. People are turning to oils, gummies, and other CBD food and drink products to relax at the end of a long day. Retired NFL players are using CBD to manage physical pain, debilitating headaches, and sleeplessness. Spa clients are even using CBD skin products to fight signs of aging.

We're still in the early stages of understanding CBD's effects on the body, but there's already scientific evidence — some of it funded by the U.S. government — that CBD has legitimate medical benefits, too.

High Quality CBD
High Quality CBD

When we say that we've selected high quality CBD manufacturers, we mean it! Both manufacturers that we sell have their products routinely tested by independent laboratories. This not only assures that each bottle contains the correct CBD potency, but also that there are no unwanted contaminants.

Our manufacturers use only organic farming practices and are governed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture to stay in guide lines with Industrial hemp cultivation practices and Organic guidelines. Through our growing seasons and different stages of our processes we regularly test for purity and potency.

All of our products are completly THC free. If you have more questions, give us a call at the pharmacy or stop by and see one of our pharmacists!

ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM
ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of a collection of cell receptors and corresponding molecules. You can think of cell receptors like little locks on the surface of your cells. The keys to these locks are called endocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids are the chemical messengers that tell your body when to get processes moving and when to stop. Each time an endocannabinoid binds to a cell, it relays a message, giving your cell specific direction.

Certain receptors are more concentrated in specific regions. CB1 receptors are abundant in the central nervous system. CB2 receptors are more often found on immune cells, in the gastrointestinal tract and in the peripheral nervous system. The diversity of receptor locations shows just how important endocannabinoids are for day-to-day bodily function.

The ECS helps to maintain optimal balance in the body – known as homeostasis. It also helps regulate sleep, appetite, digestion, hunger, mood, motor control, immune function, reproduction and fertility, pleasure and reward, pain, memory and temperature regulation.

When the ECS is disrupted, any one of these things can fall out of balance. When the body does not produce enough endocannabinoids or cannot regulate them properly, you are more susceptible to illnesses that affect one or several of the functions mentioned above.

The endocannabinoid system is extremely complex and plays important roles in many vital processes, and it holds promise as a treatment target for many debilitating conditions.

  • ARE YOUR PRODUCTS LEGAL?
Yes. We carry two carefully selected manufacturers that are both completely THC free making them legal in Kansas.

  • ARE HEMP AND MARIJUANA THE SAME?
No. Hemp is completely different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. Marijuana, as it is widely known, is used for medicinal or recreational purposes. Hemp is used in a variety of other applications that marijuana couldn't possibly be used in. These include healthy dietary supplements, skin products, clothing and accessories. Marijuana contains many chemical compounds that create the different characteristics of the plant. Terpenes provide flavors and aromas, while chlorophyll in the leaves makes the plant green - but the most important chemicals in marijuana are the cannabinoids.

  • HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Cannabinoids, particularly CBD, demonstrate a bell-shaped dose-response curve; therefore, it is imperative that patients slowly titrate (increase) up to their optimal dose without going over. To find an optimal dose, patients should eliminate the use of any cannabis product for two days. Going over the optimal dose could cause the patient to lose the maximum benefits. Most patients prefer to start using CBD about two hours before bedtime. Patients should start with 10-15mg of active cannabinoids once daily, increasing the dose slowly every 2-3 days to determine if a better therapeutic effect results. For example, use 10mg once daily for two days, then increase to 10mg twice daily (morning and night) for two days. Continue to slowly titrate the dose up every few days. Once a point is reached where the therapeutic benefits do not increase OR where they decrease, stop and go back to the previous dose. This is the top of that individual's bell-shaped dose-response curve

  • WHAT IS THE ENTOURAGE EFFECT?
Cannabinoids, terpenes and other chemical compounds found in cannabis achieve limited success when working in isolation or as individual components. Research suggests that when these individual components of the cannabis plant support one another, therapeutic benefits are magnified. Together, they produce an effect that is greater than the sum of their parts. This phenomenon is known as the "entourage effect." The entourage effect supports the idea that whole plant medicine is superior to pure extracts.

  • WILL I GET "HIGH"?
No. While there are at least 113 known cannabinoids produced by the hemp plant, cannabis is identified by its two active ingredients: THC and CBD. THC is the only molecule in the cannabis family with a psychoactive component. It's the only one that will get you "high." CBD, even at extremely high doses, will not make you feel "high." There are hundreds of other cannabinoids, terpenes and phytonutrients present in the cannabis plant that are beneficial to overall health and wellness; unfortunately, they are improperly associated with the properties of one molecule, THC

  • HOW IS CBD ISOLATED FROM THE CANNABIS PLANT?
CO2 extraction is the best method to extract pure CBD isolate, in which state it exists as a clear/white crystal. This method is preferred over other methods because it leaves practically zero traces of chemical contaminants in the end product. Alcohol extraction is another method, wherein a liquid such as ethanol, butane, or hexane is run through raw plant material to extract the CBD and then evaporated to leave only the active cannabinoid. This can be a dangerous method because it's prone to leaving excess traces of the butane or hexane chemicals in the extract. Also, infusing vegetable oil (i.e. olive oil) is another effective way of extracting CBD. All you do is grind up the raw plant material, decarboxylate (heat) it, and let it sit in boiling (100-deg Celsius) oil for about 2 hours.
